    Description

    This is an auction find.
I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out what time period this is from, I know it's vintage, I know Rawlings doesn't make tennis equipment anymore (at least under the Rawlings name that I can find), and for several years table tennis equipment was sold with the Spalding name.  Based on that information I believe (I could be completely wrong) this set could be from the 40s or early 50s if not before.  I've tried to track down when Rawlings started using "The Mark of A Pro" slogan and can't date that either.
Two of the paddles the Rawlings sticker has fallen off (still included), the other two it's still attached.  The paddles say Japan at the bottom and have the R on the handles.  One of the oddities of this set is inside the box it says 4 5-Ply, yet all of the paddles are marked as 7-ply.
The instruction and rules for the game and professional play refer to USTTA laws, however to my knowledge it's always been referred to as USATT.  Instruction/rule book also says Japan.
There are 4 Rawlings balls made in Japan in their boxes, but there is a 5th Rawlings ball that indicates made in USA and says championship on it, and there is also a Halex 3 star ball made in England.  I've been able to find online some Halex 2 star balls that were from the 50s but I can't find anything to help me date these 3 star balls, I assume though they would be from the same time period.
The net, also made in Japan (net and metal clamps) has holes in it and clearly not well taken care of for storage (my guess is it was thrown in a basement or a garage etc.) but I can't speak to previous environment, storage, etc except that it is not a nice clean pretty set.
I really have no idea if this set would have any value,  I've priced it on the idea it may have a little value because of its rarity and possible age, but am open to offers.
If anyone can provide additional information please send me a message!
